Biography

With a diverse training background that includes Jamaica, The Bahamas, and South Africa, Dr Hamilton made Australia his home in 2010. Since then, he has pursued further specialisation, honing his expertise at prestigious institutions such as Liverpool Hospital, Campbelltown Hospital, Mater Brisbane Hospital, Brisbane Metro-North Colorectal Group at RBWH, and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.

Dr Hamilton earned his MBBS from the University of the West Indies in 2000, followed by extensive postgraduate training in South Africa, where he completed his FCS(SA) through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. He later attained his FRACS through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015 and is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). His training includes trauma and acute care fellowships, minimally invasive and robotic surgery workshops, and advanced colorectal fellowships across leading Australian hospitals.

He completed multiple colorectal surgery fellowships at institutions such as the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (NSW), Mater Brisbane Hospital, and the Brisbane Colorectal Group. His surgical leadership roles have included Director of Surgical Training and Clinical Superintendent at Campbelltown Hospital. He is also a Senior Lecturer at Western Sydney University and an instructor in trauma surgery across Australasia and internationally.

Dr Hamilton is widely published in peer-reviewed journals with a focus on colorectal surgery, trauma, robotic techniques, and surgical innovation. Notable contributions include research on pelvic exenteration, robotic colorectal techniques, and case reports on rare surgical pathologies. He has presented at international conferences and received several teaching awards, including the Inaugural Denise Lonergan Teaching Prize and the Clinical Associate Dean’s Teaching Award from UNSW. His teaching roles span several universities including the University of Queensland and University of New South Wales.

Dr Hamilton’s clinical and academic interests include colorectal surgery, trauma and acute care surgery, military medicine, and surgical education. He is actively engaged in research, including studies on robotic surgery outcomes and colorectal cancer in pregnancy. His passion for surgical training is matched by a commitment to service, both in the operating theatre and in community outreach.
